This Tuesday group is a small meditation- & awareness-focused Practice ‘circuit’ meant for people who have been exploring Buddhism but wish to improve in:

Meditation (25mins), Loving-Kindness, Equanimity,  Compassion,  Sympathetic Joy,  Deep Listening, &  Gratitude.

We will get to know each other while we deepen our Practice in a safe and caring environment.

Members will have the opportunity to run a weekly of session (voluntary).

This is a different form: that of a Circle, with each member contributing and learning from each other.

To join, I am asking interested people to have a commitment to this Circle for a ‘season’.

This is much the same as if you were to join a sports team:

You can certainly miss a weekly session, but I ask that you are committed to being there for yourself and each other as if you were on a team.

This ‘Season’ Practice will run Tuesday evenings from Jan 23rd through Apr 10th, starting at 7pm, at the Temple (IE: 12 weeks).

We usually finish about ~8:30pm, then a little shared cleanup of teacups that we used etc.

You can come on Tuesday Jan 16th to try it out before the ‘committed’ Season starts.

It is a gentle group, led by it’s members.

Membership is limited to 12.

Dana to the temple:  $25/person, speak to me if you cannot afford that, it should not be an impediment to attending.

This is a Jodo Shinshu/ Mahayana Buddhist service that marks the death of the Buddha. It is known as either Parinirvana or just Nirvana Day.

Buddhists celebrate the death of the Buddha, because having attained Awakening, he achieved freedom from physical existence and its sufferings.

The Buddha’s death came when he was eighty years old, and had spent forty years teaching after his Enlightenment. He died in a state of meditation, and attained nirvana, a release from the cycle of death and rebirth.

Ever wonder what goes in to making a service tick?

Everyone will have an opportunity to test your skill at ringing the Kansho (big bell) that starts every service.

Then continue on to a chanting station, a meditation station, the Naijin (altar) station where you will learn the symbolism of the items and how to arrange them properly.

Finally you will join everyone in a silent lunch meditation and then close off the service making your own very personal Buddha Button name tag!

Don’t miss it!

refuge_circle

According to Buddhist tradition, Prince Siddhartha Gautama (Sakyamuni Buddha), the son of King Suddohana and Queen Maya, was born on 8 April, 566 B.C. in the garden of Lumbini, in present day Nepal.

Flowers decorate a statue of the Buddha and the Sangha is invited to symbolically pour sweet tea over the baby Buddha statue, recreating the legend that at birth, a gentle perfumed nectar rain fell from the sky bathing the baby Buddha.
