Garage sale – July 27

Decluttering? Spring Cleaning? Nudging adult children out of the house? We can help by selling those items that no longer spark joy at the temple Garage Sale! No clothing, books or furniture please.

If you would like to donate your gently used items to either of our 2 sale events, you could bring them to the temple July 23 and July 25 after 6 pm or contact Jean at j.masuda95@gmail.com, 403-975-6087, or Mickey at mhkuta@outlook.com, 403-271-8824 to arrange pickup or drop off times. Thank you for your support!

On Saturday, July 27, be sure to come out and support our annual celebration of impermanence!

Family Picnic

by

Everyone is welcome on Sunday, June 16 for our annual Family Day Picnic at Edworthy Park, site #1 on the south side of the river. Join us for some games, races, camaraderie and sunshine. Pack a lunch and be ready to share as it usually ends up being a potluck affair.

As so many of us know our family units now often include beings that are not human but are still so very important to our family regardless. A short service will be held at 11:30 to reflect upon all the sentient beings that have been a part of our journey through life and have supported us through good times and bad.

If you have a pet you would like to bring along or perhaps a memento of a pet that has passed please bring that and we will take a moment to reflect upon all the non human beings that have supported our existence and asked for so little in return.

Access is best from the south side of the park off of Bow Trail. From the north side walk across the bridge and look for the pack at site #1.

Sensei Ken Madden

It is with sadness that we say farewell to Sensei Ken who has decided to step away from all his activities at the Temple. Sensei Ken has been a long time member and volunteer at the Temple, serving as a Board member, obtaining tokudo, and then serving as a ministerial assistant. He brought many good ideas to the Temple as a Board member and as ministerial assistant. He was always a smiling face on Sunday mornings, handing out the Seiten and greeting people.

In addition to his involvement in the Temple, he worked in outreach, representing Jodo Shinshu Buddhism in interfaith activities and on the U of C campus.

We wish him all the best as he goes forward in his life journey, and we thank him for all the work which he has done for the Temple and the Sangha. Our deepest gratitude to Sensei Ken.

Our Honoured Seniors – Sunday, May 26 was a special day held annually to honour and say “thank you” to our more experienced members.  Where would our Temple be without our Senior Members, the pioneers who started and continue to support our Temple, the Temples of Canada, and Jodo Shinshu Buddhism?
