Annual Chow Mein Dinner – UPDATED

The Calgary Buddhist Temple will be holding our annual Chow Mein Supper on Saturday, October 20, 2018 from 4:30 to 8:00 PM at the temple (658 1st Ave NE). Tickets are $20 (you can either eat-in or take out). We will  be selling various Japanese-themed items as well as tickets for our WestJet raffle. All proceeds from the dinner will go towards the CBT Capital Campaign. For tickets, please contact Dan at dan37mcc@gmail.com or Mickey at mhkuta@outlook.com. Tickets will also be available at the temple (Sundays services) leading up to the event.

Obon – Sunday, Aug 26 (updated Aug 14)

Honouring all Ancestors – Obon is a time to express our gratitude to loved ones who have passed on before us. Without them, we would not be who we are today, due to the basic tenet of interdependence. We would not be where we are and we would not be able to do the things we do to enjoy life. Just think about the number of people involved in creating each of us. If we go back just thirty generations, we can calculate that there were over two billion parents, starting with our two parents, their four parents, and so on—and that’s just the physical part.

Schedule for cemetery visits:
• Strathmore – 9:00 am
• Mountain View – 9:45 am
• Burnsland – 10:30 am
• Eden Brook – 11:00 am
• Queens – 1:00 pm

Obon Temple Service is at 3:00pm with potluck to follow. Please sign up to bring a dish to create a wonderful Obon meal! (Our super senior members are NOT expected to bring anything!)

Everyone is welcome to attend this special service of gratitude.

Volunteers Needed for Calgary Japanese Festival “Omatsuri”

We are preparing for our Japanese items sale at the annual Calgary Japanese Festival “Omatsuri” on Saturday, August 11, 2018 and need volunteers to help set up, sell, and/or clean up.

If you have some Japanese items to donate, you can bring them to the temple or even at the event.

Fundraising – updated June 7

As we head into late spring, the Fundraising committee is gearing up for our annual events. We are requesting once again for your participation and help.

SATURDAY, JUNE 23 – TEMPLE GARAGE SALE
We are asking for donation of garage sale items for our annual garage sale on June 23rd. If you have items to donate we will gratefully accept items other than clothing, books and large furniture. Two ways to drop off items:

1. Bring them to the Temple on Service Days (Sundays or Thursdays).
2. Arrange for a drop off outside of those days or a pickup by contacting:
