Interested in Buddhism and how it can be a part of your daily life?

Then join us on Thursdays, 7:30 – 8:30 pm as the fundamentals of Buddhism will be introduced and discussed.

There will be 8 consecutive sessions beginning October 12 through November 30, 2017 so mark it on your calendar and come on out!

Each evening will be a combination of short DVD clips followed by a question and answer/ discussion time.

No prior knowledge or experience is required, just an open and curious mind!

Our Temple will have two booths at the Calgary Japanese Festival “Omatsuri” (Hosted by Calgary Japanese Cultural Association).

Date: Saturday, August 12, 2017

Time: 11:00am – 6:00pm

Location: Max Bell Centre  1001 Barlow Trail S.E.

Details:

  • Sales Table: We will be selling gently used Japanese items including Japanese dishware, kimonos, ukatas and decorative items.
  • Community table: We will be offering information about Calgary Buddhist Temple and also have for purchase an assortment of Ojujus, and “Have a Buddhaful Day!” T-shirts.

Dementia Workshop

The Momiji Society and Japanese Medical Support Network in Canada are co-sponsors of an upcoming workshop on dementia and are offering a 3 hour dementia volunteer training‎ in Calgary on Sunday, July 23! They are preferably targeting caregivers or volunteers for seniors programs. The temple has been asked to share this wonderful opportunity to anyone who might be interested in attending.

  • If English speaking persons show interest in the workshop, we would welcome them because the lecturer will be Ms. Yuka Okada, Momiji support service director, geriatric nurse who can present both in Japanese and in English.
  • We can provide a standard text book for free and show DVD with English subtitle.
  • Workshop program was developed by Caravan-mate council in Tokyo and well-received in Japan.

Dharma Time for Kids

A new season of Dharma Time for Kids will be starting in September! The goal is to host an activity for the kids every Sunday. Lessons will be approximately every-other week, and informal play time/social time for the kids with games and puzzles will be on the other Sundays. The Temple website calendar with have more specific information as planning progresses.

A Dharma Time fun-filled fall picnic/bar-b-q is scheduled for Sunday, September 10th after Service @ St. George’s Island near the playground (weather permitting).

*Note: We are looking for volunteers to help with Dharma Time – both for short lessons (25 minutes) and for play/social time supervision. Please contact Erin at e.nagata@shaw.ca if you are able to help.
