was held on Saturday, June 3rd – thank you to everyone for coming out and supporting this successful Temple fundraiser!

Total sales were an impressive $1,646.25 which is almost $450 more than last year so exceeded expectations!

Thank you to the volunteers who worked Thursday and/or Saturday – especially the young adults with all their energy! The garage sale was well worth the effort!

Gotanye & Keirokai

We are celebrating St. Shinran’s birthday (Gotanye) and honoring our Temple’s senior members (Keirokai) on Sunday, May 28th. Please join us for a luncheon following the service. We would like to ask volunteers for some side dishes and some fruit to compliment Japanese curry.

2017 Vancouver Island Obon Cemetery Tour

The BC Jodo Shinshu Buddhist Temples Federation is proud to announce the 2017 Vancouver Island Obon Cemetery Tour from Aug. 11 to 13th. 2017 is a significant year, not only because our nation is turning 150 years old, but it also signifies 75 years since the internment of Japanese Canadians. Jodo Shinshu Buddhist services have started in Victoria!

With the approval of the Bishop of the Jodo Shinshu Buddhist Temples of Canada (JSBTC) and sponsorship of the British Columbia Jodo Shinshu Buddhist Temples Federation BCJSBF), a series of services, in English, are being held in Victoria. These services are in recognition of special events in Jodo Shinshu Buddhism; in conjunction with each of these services, there will be a “Dharma” Sharing.

These services are open to those interested in Jodo Shinshu Buddhism; Jodo Shinshu Buddhism was first introduced to Canada in 1905. Presently, there are several temples in Canada with two of the largest in Vancouver and Richmond, B.C.

The first of these services was the Bodhi Day Service and it was held Saturday, December 3rd in recognition of attainment of Enlightenment by the Buddha. The second service was the Ohigan Service (Spring Equinox), held on Saturday, March 11.

Future services will be held on Saturdays at 10:00 am. Please see the dates below for a list of future confirmed services in 2017.

Are You Interested in Learning About Personal Directives?

A representative from Alberta Health Services will be doing a presentation about advance care and personal directives. Advance Care Planning is a way to help you think about, talk about and document wishes for health care in the event that you become incapable of consenting to or refusing treatment or other care.

Hanamatsuri

Reminder that this Sunday, April 9 is our Hanamatsuri service at 10:00 am and after service there will be a pot luck luncheon. The toban group will be preparing chow mein and rice, but we will needing some other items. If you would be willing to bring something, please visit and click on the sign up button next to the item of your choice OR feel free to bring something of your choice.
