Jodo Shinshu Buddhist services have started in Victoria!

With the approval of the Bishop of the Jodo Shinshu Buddhist Temples of Canada (JSBTC) and sponsorship of the British Columbia Jodo Shinshu Buddhist Temples Federation BCJSBF), a series of services, in English, are being held in Victoria. This is your chance as we are looking for some Buddhist captions for both T-shirts and Aprons that we will be selling at the Omatsuri Festival.

Please submit your ideas for captions in person in the “Buddhist Caption Suggestion Box” which you can find in the temple foyer, or by email to: calgarybuddhisttemple@gmail.com

Come up with a phrase that you would like to see on the t-shirts and/or aprons, and we will all be invited to place our vote to choose the winning caption. The caption will then be coupled with an image that will complete the product!

Submission deadline is May 7th so that there is time for the voting, tally and to have the items produced. Voting will take place by ballot on May 14th and May 21st at the temple, directly after service.

All proceeds will benefit the Calgary Buddhist Temple.

Best of luck and have fun!!!

Both the Higanye Service and the JSBTCWF Dana Day will be held on Sunday, March 19. Higan means ‘reaching the other shore of (awakening)’. It is a service of reflection and renewal. Traditionally held on or near the equinox when day and night are of approximately equal duration all over the planet.

The Jodo Shinshu Buddhist Temples of Canada Women’s Federation (JSBTCWF) is our national women’s organization where each temple, across Canada, designates one service annually for the collection of “Dana” – giving without thought of receiving something in return. This year, the date for the Calgary Buddhist Temple is Sunday, March 19. All donations made on this day will be gratefully collected – please make any cheque contributions out to the Calgary Buddhist Temple – one cheque will then be sent to the national office. With the 2016 WF Dana Day funds collected last year, the amount of $2,000 each went to the Children’s Wish Foundation and Food Banks of Canada.
