Remediation Fund for Temple

Friday, July 17, 2026
by

As many of you know, the Calgary Buddhist Temple building encountered a major problem last year that the Board is still working to remediate. We are thankful and grateful for our supportive Sangha.

Below is the link to an attachment that explains what happened and what is being done to address the problem as well as set out the expected timeline for repairs and the costs.

We really need your support in meeting these costs. We are therefore starting a Remediation Fund to accept donations to cover the cost of this work. Our target is $125,000, but no amount is too small to support the Temple. Donations can be made by e-transfer to calgarybuddhisttemple@gmail.com marked “Remediation Fund”, through Canada Helps at https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/39361, by cash or cheque at Temple services, or by mail to Calgary Buddhist Temple, 207 – 6 St NE, Calgary, Alberta, T2E 3Y1.  Please include your mailing address so that we can provide you with a tax receipt.

This has been a long process for the Temple in addition to being an expensive endeavor. We truly appreciate your support in order to keep the temple building strong and safe for everyone.

We also want to thank the Sangha members who have been working on this project: Ken Nishi, Lester Ikuta, Barrie Robb, and Evan Oshiro. And thank you to Robert Sensei who has continued to work through the mess and to support the Board and the Sangha.

In gassho,

Board of Directors / Calgary Buddhist Temple

September is Japanese Heritage Month and as such, the Calgary Buddhist Temple Sangha Engagement is proud to hold a movie matinee at the Temple. Set in Tokyo, RENTAL FAMILY follows an American actor (Brendan Fraser), who struggles to find purpose until he lands an unusual gig: working for a Japanese “rental family” agency, playing stand-in roles for strangers. As he immerses himself in his clients’ worlds, he begins to form genuine bonds that blur the lines between performance and reality. Confronting the moral complexities of his work, he rediscovers purpose, belonging, and the quiet beauty of human connection.
