The Temple’s hondo (main area) is used for in-person Sunday Services starting at 10:00am (MST) AND we also offer Live Streaming as well. We hope you will join us! 

Online live-streaming is from our Facebook group Calgary Buddhist Temple and the relevant sections from our service book are posted prior to the service.

The CBT Fundraising Committee has organized events several events – please note these dates and watch for Sign-Up Genius volunteer requests.

1. Dough Making: Friday, September 25, 2026
Notice for venue and volunteer requirements will be sent via Sign-Up Genius

2. Chow Mein Making: Sunday, September 27, 2026 at CJCA; 8:30 am to 1 pm
Notice for volunteer requirements will be sent via Sign-Up Genius

3. Fall Dinner – Take-out dinner Saturday, November 7, 2026 at CJCA
The fall dinner event will also include:

  • All Things Japanese sales
  • Bake sale
  • Temple items sale

4. Grey Cup Pool TicketsGrey Cup image
Calgary is hosting the Grey Cup this year; CBT is selling pool pull tickets for a fundraising event.

5. Everything Japanese Sale
We are still collecting Japanese items for our “Everything Japanese Sale” at the November 7 Fall Dinner event. Please contact Mickey if you have any items to donate. Email Mickey at mhkuta@outlook.com.

Minister Appreciation

The Calgary Buddhist Temple is fortunate to have a kind, dedicated and inspiring minister,

Sensei Robert Gubenco.

After service on Sunday, Sep 20, let’s show our appreciation to Sensei by enjoying a sweet treat.  Everyone is welcome to shake his hand and let him know how much his time and efforts are appreciated.

Fall Ikebana Class

Classes will be held on Saturday afternoons at The Calgary Buddhist Temple from 1:30 pm – 4:00 pm. The 5 classes are a series and the total cost including flower material and instruction is $250 for Temple members and $300 for non-members. No refunds for missed classes.

Students must have their own containers, hand pruners and kenzan (frog). Rika Saruwatari trained under Ms. Takako Yokoyama, and became a certified Shihan (teacher) in 2012.

Remediation Donation – Make Twice the Impact!

The Calgary Buddhist Temple is continuing to raise funds for our Remediation Fund. Now, a long time Sangha member has offered to match donations made to the Remediation Fund to a total of $25,000! In other words, a $500 donation becomes $1000 to the Temple. We are incredibly grateful for this generous offer.

If you wish to donate, please do so by clicking on the “Donate Online” button on the website, by sending money by e-transfer to calgarybuddhisttemple@gmail.com marked “Remediation Fund”, through Canada Helps at https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/39361, by cash or cheque at Temple services, OR by mail to Calgary Buddhist Temple, 207 – 6 St NE, Calgary, Alberta, T2E 3Y1. Please include your mailing address so that we can provide you with a tax receipt.

Consider giving a donation as a family, as a gift or make an in memory donation. Every amount makes a difference and if we raise more money than is needed for the repairs, the Board is planning to invest into an Endowment Fund to ensure the long-term sustainability of the Calgary Buddhist Temple.

Remediation Fund for Temple

As many of you know, the Calgary Buddhist Temple building encountered a major problem last year that the Board is still working to remediate. We are thankful and grateful for our supportive Sangha.

Below is the link to an attachment that explains what happened and what is being done to address the problem as well as set out the expected timeline for repairs and the costs.

We really need your support in meeting these costs. We are therefore starting a Remediation Fund to accept donations to cover the cost of this work. Our target is $125,000, but no amount is too small to support the Temple. This has been a long process for the Temple in addition to being an expensive endeavor. We truly appreciate your support in order to keep the temple building strong and safe for everyone.
