Mochi Come My Way

On Sunday, Jan 19, 2025 after service, everyone is invited to join the sangha and the Dharma Time class as we use the modern method (mochi machines) to make the mochi and shape it with our own hands. Or, you are welcome to have tea after service and stay to sample this special, traditional treat.

Getting together to make some mochi has become an annual event at the Temple. It is a popular treat throughout the year, but it is most commonly associated with New Year celebrations. Mochi is considered a symbol of good luck and prosperity, and it is believed to bring longevity and overall wellness for the New Year. We wish to embrace those symbols and hope you and your loved ones have a happy, healthy, and wonderous 2025!

I’d like to join the Mochi come my way on Jan 19th. Can you provide details about timing and if there are costs to join.

My wife and I had Mochis in Hong Kong and really enjoyed them.

Hello: You both would be most welcome to join us for mochi on Jan 19. We’ll be starting to make them for the adults after the service finishes around 11:15am or so. There is no cost to however donations to the temple are always gratefully received.
