Toy Room

The Calgary Buddhist Temple is a proud partner for the Toy Room program sponsored by the Women’s Centre which makes the holidays brighter for thousands of families in Calgary. Last year, 1,236 women and 2,628 children received gifts thanks to the generosity of community partners for the Toy Room.

We have setup a gift wrapped box just inside the Hondo (Main Hall) doors to receive toys for the program. The toys are required to be new and unused for the success of the program. We will be collecting unwrapped toys up to and including December 8, 2019.  The program is especially in need of toys for ages 8 to 18 years.

To our cooks, foodies, and friends,

You may have heard that we are launching a Calgary Buddhist Temple Cookbook to compile and share our Sangha’s best-loved recipes that bring joy to our family and friends.

If you have some favourite recipes to donate, we would love to hear from you!  Here is the template to use to submit recipes – .doc  or .pdf

We will collect them at Temple or by email at cbtcookbook@gmail.com. Please include your name and, if possible, a short description of how your recipe is special to you.

Volunteers Needed

The Temple depends on the generous time and commitment of the Sangha/Community.  Please consider the role of Newsletter Editor or Cleaning Toban Leader as these are currently vacant. Below is information on each:

Newsletter Editor: Because our previous editor extraordinaire, Danielle, needs to focus on two little ones plus a job, the Temple is looking for a volunteer to edit the newsletter, which comes out once per month. The editor is responsible for organizing and formatting information and material which are provided by Sensei, the Board and committee leads. If you know something about desktop publishing or would like a chance to learn, please email Laura at laura.a.sugimoto@gmail.com.

Cleaning Toban Leader: After several years of coordinating the cleaning toban, Tracee has taken a break. The Temple needs someone to take over scheduling and coordinating periodic “deep cleans” in conjunction with our regular monthly paid cleaning services. The toban leader and Sensei will determine how often these cleaning sessions will occur, e.g., quarterly, semiannually, etc. There is also an outside clean in April in conjunction with Earth Day. The toban leader will check and replenish cleaning supplies as needed.
