Annual Chow Mein Dinner

The Calgary Buddhist Temple will be holding our annual Chow Mein Supper on Saturday, October 19, 2019 from 4:30 to 8:00 PM at the temple (658 1st Ave NE). Tickets are $20 (you can either eat-in or take out). We will  also be selling raffle tickets. All proceeds from the dinner will go towards the CBT Capital Campaign. Cooking/Food Demo

(Pre-registration Required!) The ladies of the Calgary Buddhist Temple are coordinating another wonderful Cooking/Food Demo to be held at the Temple on Sunday, Sept 15 at 11:30am.

The Nabe or Hotpot is a simple but delicious and comforting meal with vegetables, tofu, noodles, seafood, meat, poultry – whatever suits your taste. We will take a look at several different types of broth, and prepare the nabe to enjoy a delicious lunch!

This demo is open to ALL the members of the Sangha (men, women, and children). Cost is $5/adult and children (12 and under) are free.

Register for Ikebana Classes

Japanese Flower Arrangement (Ikebana) Classes will be held on Saturday mornings at The Calgary Buddhist Temple from 10:00 am – 12:30 pm on:

Sep 14, 28, Oct 12, 26 and Nov 16   

The 5 classes are a series and cost is $225 total ($45 per class) including flower material and instruction for Temple members or $250 for non-members ($50 per class). No refunds for missed classes.

Students must supply their own containers (please ask Rika for suitable size and shape), scissors and kenzan (frog). Contact Rika if you need help selecting your items but these are not supplied as part of the lesson.

Rika Saruwatari trained under Ms. Takako Yokoyama, and became a certified Shihan (teacher) in 2012.

Getting to the Bottom of It – Cancelled!

Pelvic Floor Dysfunction in Women can cause multiple symptoms, which may include pelvic pain or pressure, lack of bowel and bladder control, sporadic or persistent low back or hip pain and dysfunction. On Sunday, October 6 at 11:30am, attend this one hour workshop made available for the Ladies of the Calgary Buddhist Temple and their guests. If you have some of these symptoms or just have a curiosity, please come for a listen.

There is no charge to attend this workshop and by speaker request, any donations made at this workshop will be directed to a family or women’s charity therefore, we will proudly be supporting the Women’s Centre of Calgary.

Nokotsudo & Obon

On August 17 at 2:00pm, there will be a Nokotsudo or Columbarium Service at the temple. A Nokotsudo is a special area for the storage of ashes of loved ones.

Calgary Japanese Festival “Omatsuri”

The 9th Annual Japanese Festival “Omatsuri” will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2019 from 10 AM – 5 PM at Max Bell Centre. “Omatsuri” is the Japanese term for a “traditional festival”.

Visitors to the festival will be treated to authentic Japanese customs, presentations of traditional music, dance & song, martial arts demonstrations, and more! There will be games and activities for the kids, galleries of local Japanese arts and crafts as well as several food kiosks featuring traditional Japanese cuisine.

Don’t miss out on the fabulous sake tasting as well as our beer gardens! We hope you will join us on August 10th to support the members of the Japanese Canadian Community as we celebrate our heritage, culture and traditions.
