Tomorrow, Thursday, January 26, we are hosting the Sikh group who will sing their scriptural music and give a short talk about their faith. We are very fortunate to have this opportunity as the musicians are visiting priests from India and will be returning home on February 6.
Please come and join us to welcome this group!

To all the Selfless and Dedicated Casino Volunteers:
I apologize for my tardiness. The casino was over 6 months ago! But, this gives me opportunity to wish each of you a Happy New Year and I can also report the results of your volunteering. The Temple received our share of the casino proceeds, over $66,000. The way I figure it, that is just over $240 dollars per volunteer hour.
I think that all volunteers of the July casino and all previous casinos can look at our beautiful temple and take pride in knowing that their volunteer commitments were instrumental in making this possible.
I appreciate that although it is not taxing work, it is a long day and night. Please accept this as my heartfelt “Thank You” for volunteering.

On Thursday, January 26, four Sikh priests will be joining our 7:30pm service. They will give a short talk about Sikhism and share their faith/practice through scriptural music and songs. Please come and join us!
Five classes are being offered by Rika Saruwatari. Classes are open to the public and will be held Saturday mornings 10:00 am -12:00 noon on April 29 May 13 & 27 and June 10 & 24 at the temple.
Cost is $175 including tax
Students must supply their own containers (please ask Rika for suitable size and shape), scissors and kenzan (frog). Ask Rika if you need help selecting your items as these are not supplied as part of the lesson.

As many of you know, the ongoing war in Syria is destroying lives and families and shows little hope of ending in the near future.
Refugees from all walks of life have had to escape this conflict, often with little but the clothes on their backs.
Anoush Newman, a Syrian herself, now works for the Canadian Catholic Immigration Services which is an organization tasked with resettling refugees in Calgary.
Please join us for this special presentation and hear about the amazing history of Syria, plus the innumerable challenges resettlement poses for the arriving refugees and what Canada and Calgarians are doing to assist in the whole process. Everyone is welcome!
The 2017 Calgary Buddhist Temple membership forms are available online and will soon be available in print at the temple. Memberships can be taken out for $100 for the year with seniors (65 and over) and students (under 18) complimentary. Of this fee, $80 goes towards supporting our national organization, the Jodo Shinshu Buddhist Temples of Canada. Please take a few moments to complete the form. Thank you for your continued support.
