We have recently received the Gomonshu sama’s latest message sent from the Hongwanji International Department.  Please follow this link to read his message on “Gratitude for the Jodo Shinshu Teaching” which begins

“This year we will once again have the opportunity to observe the Commemorative Service of the Establishment of the Jodo Shinshu Teaching together. This service’s name, ‘Establishment of the Jodo Shinshu Teaching,’ refers to Shinran Shonin’s systematical presentation of the Jodo Shinshu teaching through his main writing, Kyōgyōshinshō, or The True Teaching, Practice, and Realization of the Pure Land Way. She is a Usui Reiki Master, Karuna Reiki Master and Kundalini Reiki Master.

The book took over two years to compile and contains 270 pages with full colour section dividers and coil binding There are recipes from members and friends and photos illustrating nearly 70 years of Temple history.  Recipes from the Chicken Teriyaki Dinners and Japanese New Year’s Day food “Osechi Ryori” are also featured.

Capital Campaign Donor Wall

After some delays, we are happy to announce the installation of the Capital Campaign Donor Board located in the front entrance of the temple. This is a permanent installation recognizing the contributions from our sangha, as well as supporters across Canada and around the world, who made our temple renovations possible. Event invitation to share:  Hello, We would like to announce an upcoming online event that JSIO will be holding. 

Event: Faith and Science: Awakening Compassion for the Future
Date: Saturday, October 30, 2021
Time: 11am – 1pm (PST) on Zoom
Registration: free, link in QR code

Description: Dr. Miriam Hinostroza, Head of the Global Climate Action Unit of the UN Environment Program, will be giving a keynote speech about #7 of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Affordable and Clean Energy. Following her talk, there will be panelists from different religious traditions (Catholicism, Islam, and Jodo Shinshu) to discuss the topic from their perspectives. It will be followed by a Q&A session.

This event is free and open to the public. Please share this information and the flyer with your temples as well as any other religious groups in your communities that might be interested in attending.
