Join us for our annual Chow Mein & Ribs Dinner on Saturday, November 7 – pickup only between 3-6pm! DEADLINE TO PURCHASE TICKETS: Wednesday, Oct 28/26 while supplies last

While picking up your dinner:Poster for Everything Japanese Sale

  • Pick up some dessert at the Bake Table.
  • Visit the Everything Japanese Corner to check out Japanese vintage & household items – dishes, ceramics, art, collectibles & more.Hasegawa Trading Co.
  • Stop in at the Hasegawa Trading Co. table for Japanese tea tasting & tea sale. Enjoy a complimentary Matcha Genmaicha and shop premium teas from Shizuoka, Japan.

FOR THIS YEAR ONLY, our take-out dinner event will be held at the Calgary Japanese Community Association (2236–29 Street SW).

Pickup:  3:00pm-6:00pm (Please bring your own bags)

Tickets: $25

Sunday Services In-person & Online

**Sundays, Oct 18 & 25 – online live-streaming will NOT be available**

The Temple’s hondo (main area) is used for in-person Sunday Services starting at 10:00am (MST) AND we also offer Live Streaming as well. We hope you will join us! 

Online live-streaming is from our Facebook group Calgary Buddhist Temple and the relevant sections from our service book are posted prior to the service.

We Need Your Help

The upcoming annual Chow Mein and Ribs Dinner is on Saturday, Nov 7 and many hands are needed to help make this event a success. We are asking for volunteers to help prepare and serve the dinner as well as we are requesting contributions for the Bake Sale. Unfortunately, with our Temple currently under repairs and unavailable to us, we will be holding the dinner prep and serving the take-out dinners at the CJCA’s Nikkei Cultural & Senior Centre located at 2236 29th Street SW.  Dinner pickup will be at this location from 3-6:00pm along with some added features such as our delicious Bake Sale, “All Things Japanese” sale, and Hasegawa Trading Co.’s tea sales!

BAKE SALE

Please contact CBTchowmeindinner@gmail.com if you can contribute bake sale items, or if you have any questions by November 3.

Suggested items include:

    • Bread or buns 
    • Cakes, squares, muffins, loaves 
    • Cookies 
    • Fruit pies 
    • Jelly rolls 
    • Sweet dough items like doughnuts 
    • Rice/mochi goods
    • Candies/sweet treats
    • Savory treats
    • Stable foods that do not require refrigeration

Please label wrapped goods with product name and information such as a list of ingredients in case of allergy inquiries.

Please note: Due to Environmental Public Health food safety regulations, we are unable to sell items that require onsite refrigeration such as baked goods with whipped cream or with perishable fillings. We also cannot accept home-canned items. Thank you for your understanding.

Mini Grinch Tree Workshop

On Sunday, Nov 29 from 1:00pm-3:00pm, bring a touch of Whoville magic to your holidays! Join the temple sangha for this fun workshop as we transform ordinary greenery into a delightful holiday centerpiece with a touch of the Grinch’s signature charm. This workshop is being subsidized by the Temple so the cost is only $50 per person – here’s what’s included:

  • Winter Greens (based on availability cedar, pine, fir or cypress)
  • One decorative 3.5-4 inch pot cover that can be reused
  • A range of accents and holiday décor to adorn your tree
  • All necessary tools, supplies, and step-by-step instructions
  • Finished tree is approx. 12-15 inches tall
  • And add your personalized touches and wala!

Toy Drive and Warm Hearts

The Temple will be putting up a holiday tree at the front of the hondo for the collection of toys as well as items of warm clothing for those less fortunate.  The toys will be gratefully accepted by “Baby It’s Cold Outside” and the warm clothing we will take to the Calgary Drop-In Centre Free Goods Program / Donation Centre.  We’ll be collecting until Sunday, Dec 6.

Let’s continue to show kindness and help those less fortunate.

Veterans Foodbank

The Calgary Buddhist Temple Sangha Engagement is proud to support the Canadian Veterans Services Society. With Remembrance Day being Nov 11, the Temple will be collecting food items until the 15th and delivering everything to the Veterans Foodbank in Calgary. The organization is specifically tailored to support individuals who have served in the military (such as the Canadian Armed Forces or allied forces), and frequently includes active service members, Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), and frontline emergency first responders like police, fire, and EMS. All clients are treated with dignity & respect. 

Let’s show our appreciation for their service.
