Come and meet members of Midnight Taiko (www.midnight-taiko.ca), gain an overview of the history of Taiko, learn about the different Taiko drums used in an ensemble, and also learn how to play the Taiko!

This is a beginner’s adult-only workshop and no experience is necessary however, space is limited so register early at: (WORKSHOP IS NOW FULL – PLEASE EMAIL SUSAN TO BE PUT ON THE WAITLIST)

Don’t forget that the ladies of the Temple are starting off 2020 by hosting a Workshop on Yaki Manju on Sunday, Jan 26 beginning at 11:30am.

The workshop will be held after service and after a short update meeting regarding the JSBTC Women’s Federation (WF) which is our national organization.

This workshop is open to EVERYONE (men, women, and families). There is a nominal fee of $5/person and children (12 and under) are free. Come and enjoy the company of the sangha as we learn together!

PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED so we know how many people to expect and since space is limited.

There will also be a Cooking/Food Workshop – Mochi Making (open to everyone) scheduled for Sunday, Feb 23 and on Sunday, Mar 8, there will be a workshop called Getting to the Bottom of It – Pelvic Floor Dysfunction in Women. Again, pre-registration is required.

It is your involvement and participation that will make these successful!

Jan 9, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, and 16 – Chanting is being done for the week leading up to January 16th as a way to commemorate Shinran Shonin’s passing. Chanting of Shoshinge Nembutsu Wasan will start at 11:00am followed by a reading from the words of Shinran.

The Calgary Buddhist Temple will hold Hōonkō Memorial Services on Thursday, Jan 16 and on Sunday, Jan 19. Hōonkō is a time to express our gratitude and observe the memorial of our Jodo Shinshu founder, Shinran Shonin (1173-1262).

Stay for lunch after the service on Sunday – kindly use Signup Genius to see what’s needed and indicate what you’ll be able to bring.

In the word hōonkō; ‘hōon’ means “return of gratitude” and ‘ko’ means “to clarify the meaning of” or “gathering”‘.
